Conference: “Marine biodiversity and human health”

Conference “Marine biodiversity and human health” by Denis Allemand

We talk a lot about marine biodiversity, but what does it reflect in relation to terrestrial biodiversity? How can its knowledge help improve human health?

This conference will make it possible to present the characteristics of marine biodiversity and to present its importance for human health where it can be used as a source of new drugs, tools for medicine or even biological models to solve major biological problems such as aging.

Denis Allemand is a university professor and scientific director of the Center Scientifique de Monaco, the research institute of the Principality of Monaco. His main area of research concerns the physiology of marine organisms, mainly corals (reef-building corals, red coral, gorgonians, etc.), with a particular interest in two major biological functions, biomineralization (formation of skeletons, shells, etc.) and the symbiosis under normal conditions and under the effect of environmental disturbances (global warming, ocean acidification). He is co-author of more than 140 scientific articles and numerous book chapters.
