Fantastic opera in a prologue, three acts and an epilogue (1881)
Music: Jacques Offenbach - Booklet: Jules Barbier, after Jules Barbier, Michel Carré
Director: Robert Carsen - Music Director: Philippe Jordan

When the famous composer Offenbach began composing "Les Contes d'Hoffmann", he had already written more than a hundred operas. Left unfinished because of his death during rehearsals in October 1880, this ultimate work is an incredible synthesis, at once funny, serious and fantastic of opera food, romantic opera and grand opera.

This play is an adaptation of three tales by Ernst Theodor Wilhem Hoffmann, featuring the German poet - both narrator and hero - who tells three loves: Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta.

Robert Carsen's spectacular staging, formidable in coherence and dramatic meaning for a work that leaves many points in suspense, reveals the melancholic genius of a man marked by life.
