Eco-gestures to adopt during your holiday.

It’s easy to adopt an eco-friendly attitude during your holiday! Sustainable tourism should be on your holiday agenda: it starts by becoming aware of the effects of mass tourism on the environment and local populations, and by practising a more responsible type of tourism that is more respectful of the environment and the people who live in our town. For your transport: Choose clean transport to get to your holiday destination. Drive economically: CO2 emissions are harmful for the environment. Drive at a constant speed, avoid using air conditioning and properly inflate your tyres.

Once you have arrived, use public transport and alternative methods (bicycle, walking): you will save money by leaving your car and will improve the quality and the benefits of the Riviera air!

On a daily basis Prefer local products from more responsible short distribution channels as well as seasonal products - which also taste much better!

Treat the hotel as if it were your home: switch off the lights in unoccupied rooms, do not leave appliances on standby, close the taps when you brush your teeth. Prefer natural insecticides: chemical aerosols deteriorate the environment, so choose citronella to repel mosquitoes. Sort your waste: glass, cardboard, plastic bottles, tins, etc.

Don’t hesitate to consult the town’s selective sorting organisation During your activities: Respect the environment and protect the local ecosystems: never leave litter during a walk or on the beach and continue to sort it.

Don’t hesitate to take a bin bag with you during your walks. Simply observe the flora during your outings: walk on the footpaths and don't pick the flowers. Prefer sun cream to oil: oil leaves a film on the surface of the water which slows photosynthesis and therefore disrupts plant life near the shore, whereas cream dissolves more easily in the water. Don’t throw your cigarette ends on the beach: a cigarette filter takes 12 years to disappear…

Remember to take a pocket ashtray!

The Carbon Calculator

To go even further, calculate your ecological footprint and carry out your personal carbon assessment. This carbon calculator is a tool to raise awareness. It enables you to assess the amount of CO2 you produce during your transport and thus your impact on the environment.

Choose your mode of transport (plane, car or train), specify the journey and click on "Calculate": www.goodplanet.org A reduction of our CO2 emissions will reduce our impact on the environment.

To do this, use alternative modes of transport that only require human energy, such as walking and cycling, but also use public transport or car-pooling.
